Choosing

Platform or warehouse?

This is the question almost everyone arrives with. There is no universally correct answer, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling one of them.

What shape is your data?

Structured finance and operations data points at a warehouse. A real mix of streaming, documents and semi-structured sources points at a platform.

What will your team maintain?

A SQL-first team maintaining a warehouse will outperform the same team maintaining a lakehouse they were talked into.

What is actually planned?

Machine learning at scale changes the answer. An AI slide with no owner and no use case does not.

There is also the honest fourth factor: what you already own. If your licences, skills and estate all point one direction, the cost of going the other way is usually higher than the architectural argument for it. An assessment answers this properly, with your numbers rather than ours.
